Shaking up Breakfast

Before blending: the bag of mixed fruit has strawberries in it but I purposely left them out when I made this.

After blending: nice creamy pale yellow.

THIS MORNING, BEFORE: different berry flavored protein powder and half a banana and some spinach that I wanted to use up before it wilted. Once I open the bag of spinach it just doesn’t last as long as I would like so using it in smoothies is a great idea.

AFTER: The color isn’t very appetizing but it actually tastes very good. Didn’t bother using chia seeds this time. I have been debating on buying more protein powders from different brands. Most of the powders I have searched online, have ingredients that I wish wasn’t in them..like alternative sweeteners. Why can’t any health food product just leave out sweeteners. Ok, so if you think sugar is so terrible, please don’t replace it with anything else.

Maltitol, erythritol, stevia, and any other sweetener can make some people suffer with stomach pain, diarrhea, gas, headaches, and can actually make you gain weight. So it’s really crazy that companies add them into “diet” or “health” foods. Some people will get the headache or a case of diarrhea and never even relate it to the food that they had eaten at their last meal, and will continue eating the food day after day, week after week, for years. It’s easier to have a doctor prescribe a medication than it is to stop eating a favorite yummy food.

I like shakes and smoothies for breakfast sometimes. They are easy and convenient to take with me anywhere. Just to learn to make recipes without packaged protein powder.

EDIT: my favorite shake was made a couple years ago, the day I had all my top teeth pulled. My roomie had a friend who cooked us all a steak dinner. Yup I cut up my steak and put it all into a blender with the broth she made. Now that was a yummy protein steak shake without any sweeteners added.
