More Writing Prompts

I got up a bit late..well late for me. I am still sitting here with a cup of coffee that’s gotten cold. I am working a 6-day stretch this week. Everyone has weird hours because of cooperate coming in to do inventory.

Now that could become a story.. #1 someone finds a hidden box of a popular item that is out-of-stock,

#2 someone gets fired because cooperate doesn’t like their attitude with customers,

#3 unexpected power outtage during inventory and everyone stays overtime working with flashlights.

#3 actually happened last year..and this year, we have a planned power outtage for tomorrow, but should only last 6am-7pm. That means when I go into work at 2pm, that I will have no power for 5 hours. So 5 hours of writing every transaction out by hand and using a calculator to figure out tax. Then after the power comes back on, I will need to enter everything into the computer.

Here are a couple prompts I found online

Addict: Everyone’s addicted to something in some shape or form. What are things you can’t go without?

Missed Connections: If you go to Craigslist, there is a “Missed Connections” section where you can find some interesting story lines to inspire your writing.

Smoke, Fog, and Haze: Write about not being able to see ahead of you

Sounds: Sit outside for about an hour. Write down the sounds you hear. Better yet…close your eyes (or wear sleep mask) and then write a story about your neighborhood.

What do you hear..kids laughing, car backfiring down the street, birds chirping, neighbors yelling

What do you smell..flowers, rain, neighbors cooking,

What do you feel..wind, rain, hot sun, ants/ grass on your feet, alone & lonely

I am thinking that random writing prompts is alot easier than thinking of how to start writing the short ebook that I want to write. Ok, I need to go warm up my coffee in the microwave..and I have been daydreaming about warm cornbread for over a week now, so I think I will go make some.

See how easy it is to come up with an excuse for not writing… cooking VS writing yeah cooking is easier.

  1. Hello, I just started following your posts yesterday and I love what I’m reading so far. I would love to ask, though, what my story line would look or sound like if I’m creating a random story. I tried it out myself, and it sounded very journalistic. I feel as if I’m leaning in the wrong direction with that tone, and I’m not quite sure how to change it. Any ideas you may have I freely and openly welcome.
