I have almost 2 weeks to fly across the country. With one small carry-on suitcase and camera bag. Now I realize that most people would freak out over the idea of having to go anywhere for 4.5 months with a whole wardrobe that fit into a small carry-on suitcase. That includes everything from PJ’s, beach towel, hoodie and shoes. I am also squeezing my laptop into my suitcase.

Carryon items are limited to one bag plus one smaller, personal-type item. My limits for a carryon bag dimensions are 10 x 16 x 24 inches.

Carryon Dimensions 10 x 16 x 24 inches

A friendly reminder: If your carryon does not fit the dimensions above, we will be forced to check it at the gate.

My camera bag will be my personal item. This bag will also hold my debit card and identification. I read somewhere online that it’s good to put your I.D. into a Ziploc bag so nobody at the security gate has to actually touch the items. So many new travel tips online for anyone traveling since we got the virus scare around the world. I will be stuffing my purse into my suitcase because I can only have one personal item… which will be the camera bag. But I still get to keep everything with me on the plane. I don’t like checking bags in because…they can get damaged or lost, no matter how competent an airline claims to be. I also hate running around an airport to find the baggage claim area.

EVERYTHING else I own at this moment will be given away. I have already started giving my neighbors little “care packages” of stuff. My coworker, Kaylei, got my gardening supplies. My ex-roommate got a 3-drawer unit with cleaning supplies (I have to go through the matching drawer unit so she can have that also) and her daughter got my yarn and crochet books. The daughter’s boyfriend got the hanging shoe rack filled with misc cooking items. One unemployed neighbor that worked in a local restaurant got the rice cooker, a single cooking burner with a small cooking pot and a bag of food.

I still have books to give away to another neighbor. Today I have to go through magazines and piles of paper…way to much paper. I have no idea why I have so much paper. I need to stop saving every little store receipt, every piece of scrap paper that I scribble notes or phone numbers on. I have so much loose paperwork that I don’t even remember what it all is. Most of it is just thrown into a huge box. I have dreaded going through the box since I moved here 2.5 months ago. But the time has come to do that dreaded deed once and for all.

I am just hoping that once I get it done, and I get to my new location that I finally learn to deal with stuff the same day I receive it instead of throwing it into a box for later. Seeing as I already know that I will be moving again around Halloween, that should be easier. Just knowing that I can’t have the illusion of being in my “forever” home should stop me from becoming “settled” and collecting more stuff than what fits into my suitcase.
