Is there anyone reading this that is planning on participating in “Nanowrimo” in November? If you haven’t heard of it, Nanowrimo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It takes place every year in November. Writers spend the whole month trying to write 50,000 words to finish a novel. I have no idea how many words are in your average novel in any bookstore.
I have thought about doing this before, but can never get organized or motivated enough to get through an outline. Of course not all writers use outlines. Maybe I am just using that as an excuse to not write anything. I get stuck on the outline and then I just give up.
I have some crazy notion that everything has to be perfect. As if the first draft is the ONLY draft. You ever have someone verbally tell you a story but after they start, then they will say…of wait, and then backtrack to add something that they had forgotten.
I need to just get in the habit of writing every day for a certain amount of time…writing any part of the story. If I get stuck on one scene, then I need to allow myself to skip it for the day and write about something else in the story. There is no law that says a story can only be written from the beginning straight to the end.
Anyways…seeing as I will be signing up for Nanowrimo this year, I will be spending September figuring out the outline for the story. It’s actually the same story I have wanted to write for about the last 6-7 years. See what I mean when I say that I give up when I get stuck. Another word for my writer’s block is procrastination.
Well seeing as my work schedule got changed again this week. I will be working the next 2 mornings in the store. So I really need to go to sleep now…its almost midnight and I have to be at work by 8am. I will be grabbing strong coffee from Starbucks for sure.
☆EDIT☆ This blog is #17 for August…17 blog posts in one month is the most I have done and I have only done it 4 times on this site. Hmm, let’s see if I can do better in September. I assume blogging counts as writing.
