Having a birthday the day before St. Patrick’s Day was interesting while growing up. It was fun to see what “green” gift mom would come up with every year. Green jewelry, green clothes, or using green food coloring to make green frosting on my cake. So now that mom is gone I still like having green for my birthday & St Patrick’s Day…yes, it’s a 2-day holiday. The signs on my door was from Kim & her daughter, for my birthday.
During one of my trips into Pahrump, I stopped into Walgreens and found those green striped socks. I bought them just for this holiday to wear to work. The guests loved them but the director for the retail dept did not. She told me I had to change socks, and seeing as I did not bring an extra pair of socks with me to work She gave me a free pair of black ankle socks from our store.
We had a potluck lunch at work…only took this 1 shot of the food table. So you can’t see the spare ribs, baked beans or homemade mac & cheese.
I was sitting outside with a couple friends and one of the guys that lives downstairs came home and gave me that green centerpiece…I will assume it was something that was supposed to be used in the restaurant where he works.
I have been back in my childhood “home” state for 3 weeks. When I got here I weighed 178.6. I was so excited because the first 2 days I was here I lost a bit over 2 pounds..but since then I have gained it back (plus extra). I now weigh 2 pounds more then when I got here. I am not eating as much as I was when I was in Phoenix. The problem is that I am also not walking as much either. YES, I know all about “calories in-VS-calories out”.
Part of my problem right now is that I still don’t have my own kitchen. I am staying with family. My brother has a kitchen that could be seen on HGTV and there is no way I am going to mess it up or take a chance of breaking anything. My brother & his wife will be gone for about 3 weeks in July..so I will get to use the kitchen then.
While I love spending time with my Aunt Geri, She loves to get fast food & desserts when we are out running errands together. It’s not that I don’t like the ice cream or the chinese buffets…I just don’t like the added weight or the gassy feeling afterwards.
Today is Sharon’s birthday & yesterday was Matt’s birthday. So today for lunch I did have Sharon’s yummy homemade coleslaw & potato salad & chicken, and then we all had cake and ice cream.
Even though I took the shuttle into the Grand Canyon National Park on March 12, 2007; it was after closing hours for HR, so I had to finish all my paperwork on March 13th…so all my I.D. and paperwork says I got here 5 years ago yesterday. There is a special banquet every January for employees that have worked here for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years. But seeing as I am leaving in 2 weeks, I don’t think I will be back for my banquet. I did get to go as a guest with 1 of my neighbors 2 years ago, when she celebrated 25 years of working here. I did get a special little 5-yr appreciation pin to wear on my uniform though.
This week is also my birthday, so as a gift everyone gets a special discount that they can use in the gift shops “or” at 1 of the fancy restaurants. Tonight I went to the Arizona Room to eat. I’ve been here 5 years and this was the first time I have ever eaten there. I took my manager’s advice and got there right when it opened for dinner at 4:30. The manager was right about it filling up fast.
I started out with Southwest Corn Chowder (YUMMY) and a Cactus Lemonade to drink, which is Vodka, lemonade, and a splash of Prickly Pear Syrup. Now I am not a fan of really hot spicy ‘southwestern’ food and if though this chowder does have a bit of a kick to it, it is still one of my favorites.
I got the Blackened Salmon Dinner. That’s an avocado tomatillo salsa on top of my fish. The salsa had no “kick/bite” to it…which evened out the blackened flavor on the fish.
I was so full after this meal, that I skipped dessert. By the time I got home I was ready for a nap….and then woke up at 10pm, which is why I am still awake nowand typing this at 2:30am.
Guess now I should get my morning coffee started, make some microwave popcorn and seeing as most people in my dorm-building are sleeping I can do some laundry.
